Energy Conservation as a Challenge

More than 50 per cent of the electricity used in the city can be saved if energy conservation techniques are used in buildings, according to George Berbari, CEO of DC PRO Engineering. "Like we did in chilled water systems, we have implemented the first chilled water thermal storage and the first central plan which use TSE (Treated Sewage Effluent) water in the UAE. Now it is becoming a law in Dubai. Dubai Municipality is drafting a law requiring all DC plants to have thermal storage and utilise TSE water. Thus we are not only passing the responsibility on to the Government, but showing the Government that it can be done, and encouraging the Government to take the step. More than 40 projects are operating in the field demonstrating the effectiveness of DC systems," he says.
